How Food Effects Your Skin...

Your skin is your largest organ and everything you consume can either benefit your skin or potentially cause it distress.

We coach our clients to aim for a better balance of nutrient-rich, whole foods (meaning food closer to it’s natural state), and to work on reducing certain foods that can cause skin issues and inflammation in the body.

Excess dairy, sugar, or animal proteins can contribute to inflammation in the body and something called IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor-1). It is a naturally occurring growth hormone in the body that is at its highest levels in the teenage and young adult years (a big reason why acne is common in those years).

This is important because excessive IGF-1 in your system can lead to inflammation and increased oil production.

Studies show that those with acne have significantly higher

IGF-1 than control groups.

Eating for Clear Skin Success...
  • Eat more skin-beneficial foods (see the chart to the right)
  • Follow an anti-inflammatory, low sugar, low glycemic diet
  • Focus on whole and natural nutrient-dense foods
  • Remove foods that are your personal acne triggers
  • Choose water, herbal or green teas more often than sugary beverages like sports drinks, sodas or energy drinks
